Back to GV

Oct 15 -20 2013
I moved back up to the Nevada County Fairgrounds RV Park so I could do a couple follow up Doctor appointments and pick up my mail again. Still no health care info in the mail.

RVW National Convention 2013

Oct 5 – 14 2013
I attended the annual RVW National Convention. This year it was held at the CAL EXPO Center in Sacramento CA. I performed with the “All Girl Band” and sat in with a couple other groups. I volunteered at the help desk on Friday and attended several workshops. I was on the “question/answer” panel at the workshop about full timing in your RV. It was good to visit with old friends and make new friends from all over the country. These photos were emailed to me by a friend.

Taking care of business

Oct 1-4
I moved up to the Nevada County Fairgrounds RV Park so I could take care of a couple of Doctor appointments, pick up my mail, get the oil changed on the truck, have lunch with old neighbors, and take care of some business in Grass Valley. This is where I still maintain a physical address.

Haley's Batmizfah

Sept 26 – 30 2013
I arrived at SF RV Park in Pacifica on Thursday. I met my friend Lolo on Friday at a Stanford Women’s Volleyball game. While there, I ran into another friend Cathy. And Stanford won. It was a good evening.
Saturday was my friend Marilyn’s youngest daughter Haley’s Batmizfah. It was a very nice ceremony and a wonderful celebration with food, drinks, dancing and visiting with old friends afterward.

Harvest Moon

Sept 22, 2013
I've been staying at my home park on the Mokelumne river near Isleton CA. I haven't been photographing as I've been busy catching up on things like laundry, house cleaning, and going to parties with friends. I just had to get the long lens out when I was driving home and saw the reflextion of the harvest moon on the river. Actually the "official" harvest moon was the night before, but it was still quite a sight.

Arches and Canyonlands NP Utah

Sept 4 – Sept 12 2013
I left MO on Sept 4th. I would have made many more stops on the way to CA, but I needed to arrive before Sept 14th to attend the engagement party of a couple of very close friends. I decided to take US 70 west because I had not traveled on that highway across the Rocky Mountains before. I must say I’m not sure I would take that route again. There are several 6% and 7% grades that continue for several miles. My poor truck was struggling so hard at the top of the first steep grade I had to pull over at the summit and let the engine cool. I have crossed the Rockies on US 80 and never had that problem. I checked the map and realized I would be passing very close to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks so I decided to spend a day in each park. I stayed in a RV park in Moab UT as it was almost 100 degrees when I arrived and I needed an electrical hookup to run my AC. As luck would have it the next two days I spent in the parks it was overcast and rainy. At least it was cooler. Because of the weather conditions the colors in the photographs are not as vivid as they would be in direct sunlight, but it was still a beautiful place, even in the rain.

The first park I visited was Canyonlands NP.

I arrived at Canyonlands NP just in time for sunrise

The ranger gave a talk about the park road system being established by the Uranium mining companies that were in the area before it became a national park.
Two rock formations named the Monitor and Merramac after the two civil war battleships.
I thought this rock formation looked like a turtle. I like turtles so I took its picture.
This is from an overlook called the Grand View. It truly was a grand view.
The rocks on this wall were beautiful shades of red. You can see the lighting conditions I had to work with.

On the second day I visited Arches NP were I encountered even more rain. I did a lot of sitting and waiting for breaks in between showers. Thunderstorms would have been better than this constant drizzle and overcast skies.

I took a side trip down Utah highway 128 that runs through a canyon that was carved by the Colorado River. If any one finds themselves in the Moab UT area I highly recommend this drive, but you night not want to take a big rig as it is a very narrow road with constant road repairs being made. There are BLM campgrounds along the way, but only the smallest of campers will fit. There were a few class C's, but I wouldn't even take my trailer into most of them as there is no place to turn around if the campground is full. The sites are best suited for tents and class B rigs.

July 29 – Aug 27
I arrived in MO a couple of days ahead of schedule and settled in at my nieces place. It’s been a month of catching up with the family and also catching up on cleaning the trailer inside and out. I am also catching up on some much needed just hanging out time. I need to learn to do more of that while I’m on the road. I tend to get in a “gotta go and see it all right now” mode.
I helped my older sister with her garage sale and had some great help from my great nieces and nephew.
My niece from Washington state came to visit with her husband and we attended a St Louis Cardinals baseball game with one of my other nieces.
We have been very lucky weather wise. Mo is experiencing a cooler than normal August. It has been very pleasant. I have not run the air conditioner until today – Aug 27.
I did take a day trip with my younger sister and niece. We went to see the estate of Pierre Menard in Ellis Grove Illinois. I read about Pierre Menard while visiting the headwaters of the Missouri River in Montana. He was a member of the Lewis and Clark “Journey of the Corp of Discovery”.  I emailed a friend back in MO and jokingly ask if they were related since they had the same last name. As it turns out, they very well could be. They are both from the same geographic area. Small world.
We returned to Mo on a little ferry that runs between Modoc Illinois and Ste Genevieve MO.
I spent one afternoon in my older sister and brother in law’s back yard photographing the birds that come to their feeders.
I will be attending my 50th high school class reunion this weekend. That should be a hoot.
